Paper 2 Prompt - Lesson 9

Written in 1958, Chinua Achebe's Things Fall Apart consists of a tragic hero protagonist who suffers when change is upon him. Okonkwo, the main characters,  inflexibility causes him to act in an inappropriate manner, (eventually leading to his death). This is all due to the fact that his father left him with only a legacy of failure when he died. Okonkwo attempts to strive as far away from this legacy as possible as it is his greatest fear. The fear of becoming his father sends him down a narrow-minded road causing him to develop considerable conflicts with himself and with those around him. The conflicts become augmented once the British arrive in Nigeria.

Thesis statement: Chinua Achebe's personal history and perspective of Nigeria has greatly influenced the meaning of his writing in the book Things Fall Apart. 

Three topic sentences:
Achebe's past experiences in Nigeria and in the literature world, have shown him that there a profuse amount of people who do not know what Nigeria is all about and how they operated before the invasion of the British.

Achebe's mindset of Nigeria is was causes him to have such a strong voice throughout the book. This demonstrates that his personal values play a significant part during his writing.

Throughout the text, there are specific instances in the book when Achebe demonstrates how the context of the story has an effect on how the story has been written. He uses the protagonist, Okonkwo, to shares these instances through.

    The paragraph is well structure, and you begin by providing some context regarding the novel itself. The hook is clearly focused on Okonkwo's fear of failure. You describe the key plot points regarding his father's legacy that lead him throughout the novel, as his motivation to succeed. The thesis statements relates to the topic sentences, but it does not connect with the introductory paragraph.

Advertisement 1: In this poster, it is clear to see the stereotypical gender advertisement differences. Even though the ad looks almost exactly the same, as both the male and female are dressed in formal clothes, both are holding sandwiches in their hands and both posters have the same big slogan on the front, there are major differences. First of all, the sandwich the woman is holding the significantly smaller than what the male is holding in his hand. Wallace Vs. Hurston

David Foster Wallace's speech, This is Water , was a brilliant commencement speech he had written for the class of 2005 of Kenyon College. The speech ended up being his most famous piece, having addressed a reality that no one concentrates on. The speech focuses on the theory of self-centeredness. Wallace believes that there is a reality of self-centeredness so real, that no one ever considers it. He starts off his speech with a short story of how an old fish, swimming by two younger fish says, "Morning, boys, how's the water?". The water is an analogy for the self-centeredness, and the young fish, for the people.
