As a child, Okonkwo's father Unoka was known as the laziest man in Umuofia. He never paid back the abundance of debts he owed many people and never got rewarded a title of any sort. Unoka never attempted to rescue his dying crops in order to provide food for his family, instead, Okonkwo was left to make sure his family ate.
